I am my brother’s and sister’s keeper

Being your brother’s and sister’s keeper doesn’t mean you have to be a blood relative, it just means you have to have compassion and empathy for your fellow man. It means you care enough to put aside the individual “me” for a collective “we.”

Being your brother’s and sister’s keeper extends far beyond race, social class or zip code. Being your brother’s and sister’s keeper might even mean raising a child that doesn’t belong to you. Being your brother’s and sister’s keeping requires you to step out on faith and do what’s right, even in times of adversity.

The Issues

The issue is, we as a people, have fallen asleep at the wheels of social and economic justice. We’ve deprived our village of a chance at improving our quality of life all because we do not vote based on the issues.

Instead, we vote for candidates based on whom we know or what they say, rather than accessing their platform and track record. The time has come for us to place a renewed focus on the issues plaguing our beloved city.

Our Village

We’ve all heard the old African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Contrary to popular belief, this phrase could not be any truer for African-American youth growing up in 2017.

It’s the responsibility of the entire village to work together to ensure that the neighborhoods we’re raising our children in are safe, free of drugs, violence and crime.
